Description:
NGC4038; RA12:01:53, DEC-18:52.3; 10.3v; Sz: 2.6'x1.8'; PA=60*; Gal; Sp.
117x-203x - the Ringtail Galaxy is an irregular oval with a tail wrapping
East and southward. Tail is very faint requiring averted vision. The halo
exhibits some clumping. It lies north from NGC4039.
NGC4039; RA12:01.9, DEC-18:53.5; 10.6V; Sz: 3.2'x2.2'; PA=130*; Gal; ?
117x-203x - NGC4039, the southern component is tadpole shaped, fainter than
NGC4038, but with bright rim along the northern edge. The bright rim may be
the remains of the core, but it does not seem well organized. The halo
appears motteled. The faint tail sweeps Northeastward and it is so faint that
I can see it only occasionally with averted vision.
