Description:
The nebulae were very striking this evening. At 118x green, blue, and
faint hints of purple were visible in M42 with the Huyghenian region
looking like a bluegreen mackeral sky. The more tenuous 'wings' had a
greenish hue fading to very faint hints of purple. The Trapezium also
was surprizing to look at with the E component showing a distinct
orange to red color next to the A component which appeared pale
green. The other visible members of the Trapezium (c,d and f) appeared
blue or white (229x). M43 looked like a reversed coma just ahead of
the "fish's mouth" of M42 showing some dark patches with averted
vision and having a light blue green color. The view was quite quite
impressive even with heavy light pollution to the west.
