Position: RA 18:00 DEC -24:18
Description:
At 50x (40mm Optiluxe, 1.2d TFOV) M8 was rather stunning as usual. The dark
Lagoon bisecting M8 is clearly seen trending NE/SW. The complex is 25'x15' in
a fat cresent shape open to the NE with a dark wedge feeding into the Lagoon.
Nebulosity is much less noticable in the vicinity of NGC6530, the associated
open cluster on the east side of M8. More noticable is a semi-detached area
of nebulosity to the north of NGC6530 by about 20'. This patch is 12'x8' E/W
fading imperceptably into the background. Truly beautiful. (Note: no filter
was used in this observation - don't have any two inch filters!)
