Description:
NGC 2301 is a beautifull open cluster Type I 3 m.
In my 8x50 finderscope it was visibleas a smudge.
It is a small cluster (12'). I could only detect abouth 30 stars
of a total of 80.
The cluster is of the 6th magnitude, the brightest star is
of the 8th magnitude (visual). There is a string of stars in the
North-South direction. In the center I found a beautifull
pair, one is yellow and the other is blue-white.
There is no background nebulosity.
