Object(s): Stephan's Quintet, HCG 92 (Hickson 92, NGC 7317, NGC 7318A, NGC 7318B, NGC 7319, NGC 7320)
Category: Group of galaxies.
Class:
Constellation: Peg
Data: mag size 4'x3'
Position: RA 22h:36m DEC +33d:58m
Description:
All observations are at 172x (10.5mm Pentax XL, 23' true field).

Stephan's Quintet (HCG 92) - 01:20 UT - All five galaxies are seen, however 7319
requires averted vision to be seen clearly. The entire group spans about 4'.
Small cores are visiible in 7318A & B and 7320. A & B are less than 0.5' apart,
with no obvious interaction detail seen.

NGC 7319 - 01:30 UT, 13.1v, SB(s)bc pec, 1.5'x1.1' - Extremely faint requiring
averted vision to be seen clearly. Relatively large at greater than 1' in
length and oriented NW/SE.

NGC 7318B - 01:35 UT, 13.9b, SB(s)bc pec, 1.4'x0.9' - Rather small at less than
1' in size. A tiny, non-stellar nucleus is seen intermittently and is surrounded by an extremely faint glow.

NGC 7318A - 01:38 UT, 14.3b, E2 pec, 0.8'x0.6' - Similar in size to its close
neighbor, 7318B. The near stellar nucleus is brighter than 7318B's nucleus.

NGC 7320 - 01:40 UT, 13.2b, SA(s)d, 2.3'x1.1' - Relatively large at perhaps 1.5'
to 2' in length, elongated NW/SE. A tiny, bright, stellar core is offset to
the SE. The surrounding haze is of uniform brightness and requires averted
vision to be seen well.

NGC 7317 - 01:42 UT, 13.6v, E4, 0.8'x0.7' - A small, faint, 0.5' haze,
elongated NW/SE, lies just to the south an 11th mag star (actually, 14" SE of
mag 12.7 star GSC 2743:1548). This glaxy was just detectable with direct
vision.
