Description:
At 131x the 2 galaxies appear as a nebulous square with a faintly visible dark
bar intruding from the west. 342x magnification resolves the 2 galaxies better
into a nebulous U with subtle detail. Brighter 4038 features an irregular
ellipse with a small nucleus that is offset to the W. The curved bright arc
connecting 4039 is easily visible. 4039 is fainter and shows no distinct core.
1’ NW of 4038 is a faint 14mag star and 4’ NW a 9mag star.
