Description:
At 75x (24 mm Ultima, 41' field) NGC 2438 was a large, fairly bright, 1',
circular spot on M46. At 120x (15mm Panoptic, 34' field) a faint, off center,
embedded star is seen. A somewhat brighter star is near the SE edge of the PN.
A slightly darker center was detected with averted vision. NGC 2438 is on the
Herschel 400 list.
