Constellation: Oph
Data: mag 9.0 size 2.7'
Position: RA 17:04.5 DEC -24:46
Description:
In Ophiuchus, at ~ 1½° N of M19. The finding of this object gave me some
difficulties. This is explained by great light pollution in this section of the
sky and bad transparency. Also, the presence of two very close stars (TYC 6815-
3167-1 and TYC 6815-2769-1) bring some confusion and I confused the cluster for
this small double star at the beginning of this observation. By studying the
zone more attentively, NGC 6284 ended up appearing at the right spot. Globular
cluster of low size and low brightness. I can only observe it with averted
vision 80% of the time. With patience, I distinguish a very fine halo around
the core. Center is not stellar in appearance. M19 in the same FOV.
