Site classification: Exurban
Sky darkness: 6mag <Limiting magnitude>
Seeing: 8-9 <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>
Moon presence: None - moon not in sky
Instrument: 15" f/4.5 Obsession
Magnification: 342x, 131x
Filter(s): OIII
Object(s): NGC 6026
Category: Planetary nebula.
Class:
Constellation: Lup
Data: mag 12.9 size 45"
Position: RA 16:01 DEC -35:
Description:
Without OIII filter at 342x, NGC 6026 appears as a fairly faint ghostly glow
around a bright 13.3mag central star. The CS almost disappears when using the
OIII filter, the nebula does stand out a little bit better but, it still is
faint. Now with the use of the OIII, some very feeble details are visible: A
brighter 10" spot appears SE of the CS with averted vision. The center of the
planetary now seems slightly darker but, that might be a visual effect due to
the central star shining in it. NGC 6026 also appears slightly elongated E-W
and looks mottled all over. The edge of the nebula does not appear sharp but,
it is gradually fainting away. A bright 7.5mag, orange star is located 7' SE
of the nebula.
