Small meteor outburst on June 15/16 1996

>DMS observer Marco Langbroek (Voorschoten, the Netherlands,
>52 deg. 10' N, 4 deg. 30' E) observed a small meteor outburst during
>the night of June 15/16 1996. Between 22:40 UT and 0:50 UT, 38 meteors
>were observed during 1.9 effective observing hours with Lm ~6.1. 25 of
>these were sporadics: but in addition, 13 very characteristic meteors
>dispersed from a radiant located at RA 18h 40m, dec. +55 (1950.0), near
>xi Draco.
>These 'xi Draconids' had a very characteristic velocity on the edge of
>medium to fast, comparable to the velocity of Lyrid meteors (~50 km/s).
>The two brightest meteors (magnitude 0 and -1) had a yellowish colour.
>All meteors have been plotted on a gnomonic chart. The number of observed
>sporadics is comparable with the numbers observed by Langbroek in June and
>July 1995. [1]
>
>The observations show a typical outburst peak profile for the xi Draconids.
>Peak rates occured around 23:30 UT, with a modest peak ZHR near 15-20
>according to some VERY PRELIMINARY calculations, which have been carried out
>assuming a population index r of 2.5 and using 20 minute intervals.
>
>We are very eager to now if someone can CONFIRM the event by either visual
>or radio observations.

>During observations, sky conditions were generally good though not excellent.
>Ocassionally some drifting small cirrus streaks passed by.
>There was a continuous twilight: medio June the sun doesn't reach -18 degrees
>altitude for latitudes of the Netherlands and a constant Nautical twilight
>persists between 22:10 and 1:15 UT.
