(meteorobs) July 5/6 6/7...
Gee George, I thought it was slow too, but looks like your rates were lower
than mine.
I got in 1.61 hours before local midnight on the 5/6th, until the more than
quarter moon wiped me out with a touch of thin cirrus, saw 9 (only plotted
8...3 occurred in 40 seconds, and my feeble brain couldn't hold all that
info to plot... first two were short, slow 0 and 1 magnitude Sagittarids
within 15 seconds of each other.Of course, I was looking South, maybe
that's why I saw more/hr.
On Sat nite, the 6th/7th, wound up with less than an hour due to an
unanticipated interruption. First a skunk, (just smile and say hi while he
walks by), then two curious campers. Had to explain what my new Dob was,
and by then the atmosphere had crossed the haze-out point. Then the Moon
came. Oh well, then spent 2 1/2 hours playing with my new scope...first
real p[lanetary observations with it...This is going to be fun. Only four
Meteors though.
Looking at this weeks weather outlook, it appears that Lew and I will
be out of sky until 10/11 or 11/12. Maybe if I stay up real late, on the
11th, we'll be observing at the same time George. As for Mark, he may be
hatch battening this week..dot bertha don't come around here anymore :-)
