(meteorobs) Xi Perseids and Perseids Aug. 10/11
As I mentioned, I was surprised to see eight Xi Perseids in two hours.
Also, I saw a mini-outburst of regular Perseids, from 8:10 to 8:12 UT
(two minutes) I saw six Perseids, four in about 30 seconds! Only one minus
magnitude Perseid was seen out of the 67 seen in 3 hours on the morning of
Aug. 10/11, 1996. Sunday I was clouded out completely, as I was last nite
and will be tonite.
I have a request to make to NAMN (and other) meteor observers. As it seems
that few if any others saw the Xi Perseids. Perhaps someone may have photo-
graphed one. Please check your pictures for any possible Xi Perseids. As the
radiant seemed to be roughly between Xi Persei and the kids in Auriga, some
cameras looking for regular Perseids may have caught a Xi Perseid on a picture.
