(meteorobs) Oct. 8 Observations

-- [ From: Robert Lunsford * EMC.Ver #2.5.1 ] --

I managed to watch for 5 hours this morning. The fog was not as
extensive along the coast resulting in skyglow up to 10 degrees altitude
along the western horizon. The crescent moon was effectively blocked by
hills and a large tree for all but the last 15 minutes of the watch. It
did form a nice triangle with Venus and Regulus. The activity was quite
a bit better than yesterday. A total of 64 meteors were recorded during
the 5 hours. The Orionids came to life as 6 shower members were seen. 3
DAU's were plotted during the second hour but none were seen during the
other 4 hours. 4 more swift meteors were plotted from a radiant near
Sigma Orionis. The NTA's (5) and the STA's (8) were much more active
this morning than yesterday. Comet Tabur was moved further north and a
stubby tail was seen through binoculars. Betelgeuse must be near the
peak of its cycle as it outshone Procyon and rivaled Rigel. Canopus was
seen peeking above the trees to the south during the last half hour of
the watch. Very few satellites have been seen the the last two mornings
with none brighter than 4th magnitude.

07:30-08:30 UT 0.94 6.66 1 NTA 1 ORI 6 SPO

08:30-09:30 UT 0.89 6.66 3 DAU 1 ORI 4 STA 7 SPO

09:30-10:30 UT 0.91 6.56 2 NTA 1 (SOR) 2 STA 6 SPO

10:30-11:30 UT 0.91 6.42 1 NTA 4 ORI 1 (SOR) 7 SPO

11:30-12:30 UT 0.88 6.27 1 NTA 2 (SOR) 2 STA 12 SPO

F was 1.00 for all 5 hours. TeFF was reduced due to plotting. I was
facing due south at an altitude of 70 degrees during the entire session.
SOR's will be recorded as sporadics to the IMO.

Beginning Temperature/Relative Humidity: 55 F (13 C) 39%

Ending Temperature/Relative Humidity: 58 F (14 C) 34%

Yes, the temperature rose during the session.
