I just retrieved this off aol's bulletin board this morning.  Perhaps this
could be found on DOD tapes? I don't know where he is located, however I will
inquire for that information.

I was looking at Altair tonight to get my bearings, and this bright meteor
shot right across my field of view.  It was the brightest one I have ever
seen, and you could literally see a smoke trail, as well as smaller chunks
streaking off of it.  It was absolutely amazing, almost like a firework.
