(meteorobs) Nat'l Geographic tv show--excellent

I was able to catch the National Geographic television special on the life
and works of Gene Shoemaker. It was one hour long and amounted to a
biographical appreciation of Shoemaker as a life long scientist. It was
excellent in its documentation of Shoemaker's research into the dynamics of
impact craters and their asteroidal origins in space. It told the story of
Shoemaker as a geologist studying space geology. The show explained the
dynamics of impacts with the analgy of rifle bullets hitting the earth and
this worked very well.

It is inspirational to see a scientist's life and work be honored like this
and also give a clear one hour lesson in comets, asteroids and meteoritics.

I hope you all get a chance to see this National Geographic special when it
is re-run.-----Tom Ashcraft
