Re: (meteorobs) LATE Fwd: Perseids in Nicaragua

Kayna, although you will have already returned from Nicaragua by the time you
read this, I thought it worthwhile replying anyway.

The *BEST* times to see the Perseids will be the early mornings of August 10,
11, 12, and 13 - and especially the 11th and 12th. Of course, the near-full
moon will interfere on all four nights, but you should still enjoy what you
see, if you follow the following advice:

First and most important, watch from a sufficiently DARK site (as rural as you
can get to, with no local lighting shining in your eyes).

Other things to remember in order to see the best show: 1) watch as LATE (close
to dawn) as possible, 2) watch as LONG as possible (meteors often seem to come
in "batches"), 3) watch in as DARK A SKY as possible (reiterated, because this
makes a HUGE difference), 4) look toward the part of the sky which is darkest
(i.e., furthest from the moon), and least obstructed.

Clear skies, and keep in touch with us at 'meteorobs'!
