Snakes and meteors (was Re: (meteorobs) Star Chart)




Yipes - venomous snakes! :(

Dave, you might be interested in an old 'meteorobs' post from Mark Davis on
this very topic! Mark had the same problem with rattlers, cottonmouth, etc.
when he used to observe further south than he is now.

His solution was to observe from the back of his pickup truck. Maybe not
fool-proof (I *guess* a rattler could slither up a tire to find warmth),
but a lot better than lying on the ground! Keeps you out of the desert wind
at night, too, I imagine...

And BTW, I *highly* encourage getting some "dark sky time" under your belt,
especially now before the Big Fall Showers start to heat up. And if you have
any questions after you come back in from observing, you know where to
ask 'em. ;> Clear skies!
