If your local library has access to it by microfilm, you ought to read the
wonderful account of observing the 1931 Leonids from the Catskill Mountains
of New York in the very first (November 1941) issue of Sky & Telescope. The
article is entitled "Leonids at Lavorika" and was written by Dr. John
Kingsbury. Apparently Kingsbury's family and close friends gathered together
to watch the Leonids and one of those who participated was Olivier himself!

There is one part in the article where the valley fog has just cleared away .
. . the little group has just stepped outside into the cold November night,
just in time to catch sight of a Leonid fireball arcing across the sky ". . .
like a rocket to the Moon."

It was at this point that Olivier nudges Kingsbury -- who, in his words was
as excited as a child at Christmas, saying "Now we'll give them a real show!
That's a promise!" Not your typical stodgy professional astronomer!
