I've only been in Istanbul twice...for about an hour each time...coming and
going as we landed and took off. From the air it did look quite interesting.

the days before the eclipse Aug. 8,9,10 (have to go back to the city for
the hotel, unfortunately)<<
I haven't been to the SE area of Turkey...but I know that you should take
precautions and heed any warnings for that area. What kind of scientific
group are you with? Good luck.
