Hey, Chip, thanks for letting us know about your fireball sighting!
Yup, if you saw the meteor trail lead all the way down into the SSE,
it's very possible it was visible from Tampa! And in fact if it was
as bright as you suggest, it was probably seen by many people over
the Gulf and the West Coast of Florida... However, probably unlike
you, few of the witnesses will think to REPORT what they saw!

That's why it's so important for you, as soon as you can before you
forget any details, to try and record your sighting with the Fireball
Data Center, maintained in Germany for the International Meteor Org-
anization! You can use their Web form at the following URL:

And since you do a lot of night fishing anyway, here's hoping this
fireball inspires you to try a bit of "technical" observing yourself
