Subject: [IMO-News] Leonids ZHR=5800 at peak
Observative site: Lenno, on the west side of Lake of Como (Italy) [9=B0.3E=
45=B0.9N]
Observers: Corrado Lamberti, Giusi Galli
Meteorological conditions: Great! No clouds, dry air, dark sky at zenith (l=
im mag. about 5.5).
Transcribed the tape, the result is in the attached graph relative to 1h 37=
m UT - 2h 41m UT.
Meteors count in interval of 4 minutes.
In this 64m we observed a total of 600 meteors (Leonids). At peak (2h 07m U=
T) we had ZHR =3D 5800.
The ZHR was calculated assuming:
- mag. lim. 5.5;
- 40% sky not observed (prudent! Only two observers attending photography; =
we surely missed several meteors); =
- Leonid population 2.3
- radiant height from 34=B0 to 44=B0.5.
- Error =3D ZHR/sqr(N)
