Hi Kevin!
Welcome to the list, and the wonderful world of meteor observing!

You didn't say where you were located, so I'm not sure what applies to you,
but I have a suggestion:

If you have clear skies, go for it. The Geminids are some of the most
spectacular of meteors, bright and with nice smoky trains.

If you are out west, the peak occurs around 3am your time, If you are back
east, the peak occurs around 6am, but since it starts getting light then,
you'll have better viewing earlier. Being east means not losing a whole
night's sleep. Even if you're out west, the Geminids are worth it, and my
gut feeling is they'll be better than ever this year. All these fireballs
people are seeing lately aren't coming from nowhere. Maybe a tip-off to an
upcoming show???
