(meteorobs) Virus spreading: Meteor IRC Chat canceled
The Meteor Observing Chat on the DALnet IRC '#meteorobs' channel, scheduled to
take place tomorrow at 11am Eastern US Daylight Time, has been canceled.
This is a (possibly overcautious) response to the "ILOVEYOU" virus, which is
*supposed* to be able to spread itself via IRC as well as email! Note that so
far, only users of the Windows IRC client 'mIRC' seem to be affected via IRC,
although the virus does use the generic IRC DCC protocol to replicate.
(NOTE: For once, this ILOVEYOU virus is quite real. And for folks unfortunate
enough to use Microsoft's email programs such as MS Outlook, it even has the
ability to replicate without the user actually launching any attachments!)
