Robert and All,
I would say that a limiting magnitude of +5.0 is the limit for useful
observing during a normal watch. During high activity the limit could be
+4.0 but this would introduce very high correction factors.
It is natural that our eyesight worsen as we age. I don't see a LM of
+7.0 or better nearly as often as I did when I was younger.
