Remeber that it is TOTAL magnitude including faint arms of a galaxy.
I question this detection. It was possible phenomen wich I call 
'ghost comet'. When eye reach limit especially when you searching for
diffuse objects (like comets) using averted vision sometimes you see
suspected nebula.
