(meteorobs) June 2001 [meteors in Belgium]
Hi everyone
Observational results of June 2001.
We enjoyed again a sunny month here in Belgium. Especially at the end of
the month we enjoyed a series of clear nights. Unfortunately these
nights are much too short ( three hours observing time is the maximum). I
was able to observe during 4 nights.
15/16-6 :
Around this time of the year there is indeed a certain activity from the
June Lyrids dot careful plotting is necessary to see the difference between
the two sources for this stream. The Xi Draconids radiant seems to be a
bit more active than the other radiant in Lyra.
3 nights (22-23 / 23-24 / 23-25)
Low stream activity (only Saggitarids) but pretty pleasant sporadic
rates the last hour before dawn. For example ; on 22-23/6 I saw between
0.15 and 1.15 UT fifteen sporadics (LM 6.00).I didn't see any June
Bootid this year. No exceptionally bright meteors.
The meteor data :
Counting + plotting method
Ellezelles-Belgium (3=B038'W / 50=B043'N) - elev. 120 m
4 nights
10.64 Teff
78 meteors
5 June Lyrids
1 Saggitarid
72 Sporadics
Magnitude Distribution
JLY : 0(0)+1(0)+2(0)+3(4)+4(1)+5(0) Average : 3.25
SAG: 0(0)+1(0)+2(0)+3(0)+4(1)+5(0) Average : 4.00
SPOR:0(2)+1(2)+2(5)+3(16)+4(32)+5(15) Average : 3.65 (5 persistent trains)
I hope the weather will cooperate during July this year, because July
last year was a real disaster. Only one short observing session was
possible in that "early autumn" month !!
Clear skies !!
