(meteorobs) is this good timing?

i'm a bit surprised at this news article:

> DISCOVERY LIFTS OFF

Space shuttle Discovery got a jump on gathering storm clouds and streaked to
orbit with five astronauts and two cosmonauts on a trip to the international
space station.

in light of the ongoing Perseid Meteor Shower reaching its peak this week,
isn't this asking for trouble or doesn't it matter?

as far as the Perseids here in the western Aegean...all i can say is 'eh'...
the Leonids are more spectacular. but i hope you all have better luck. our
skies are very clear but the meteors so far aren't adding up to big time
viewing.
