(meteorobs) Specific cloud cover forecast models

A number of computer models will give specific forecasts of cloud cover...

Two US Models (The ETA and AVN) are avaliable at:

http://www.arl.noaadot gov/ready/cmet.html

You can click on your location, and then create a customized map.

Select either:

1) ETA 40 km (The "highest resolution" model, and avaliable in 3 hour
increments, but can be a bit "squirrely" at times). This model is run 4 times a
day. At about 16Z, and 3Z, it comes out with a forecast out to 84 hours; at
about 21Z and 9Z, it comes out with a forecast to 48 hours. It covers all of
North America.

2) AVN 191 km global. This model has a lower resolution, but is a bit less
squirrely than the ETA. Note that ETA and AVN forecasts may differ radically.
This model provides forecasts for the entire world. However, it is only
avaliable in 6 hour increments. It also is run 4 times a day, but each time (on
this site) it's out to 84 hours. It will come out 1-2 hours after the ETA.

3) AVN Short Range Global...slightly higher resolution version of the AVN, it
has 3 hour increments, but comes out an hour or 2 later than the 191 km AVN.

Once you select the model, you then can select a custom map......choose "Total
cloud cover" "Color-filled" and set an interval of "10.0" (the cloud cover is in
% and this will produce a color-coded map with increments of cloud cover at
10%). If you choose "subgrid" you can select how large the map is at the
bottom.

A Canadian Model (but it covers all of North America), the RGEM, is avaliable
at:

http://www.cmc.ec.gcdot ca/cmc/htmls/clds_vis_e.html

and

http://www.cleardarksky.com/csk/

Both sites are fairly self-explanatory.

Note that this model, in turn, may differ wildly from the ETA and AVN.
