(meteorobs) March 30, 2003 Meteor Observations from California

Conditions were much more hospitable this morning as the wind was much
less of a problem. There was actually no wind at all when I arrived. At that
time the temperature was a cool 42F. The wind did appear during the last
half of the session and raised the temperature a surprising 10 degrees. The
meteor activity was also much better with a fairly constant display. There
were a couple of impressive meteors that should be mentioned. First, at
4:15 local time there was a nice -1 sporadic appearing in Aquila that left a
three second train. Perhaps the most impressive meteor of the session
occurred at 4:29. It peaked at only +4 magnitude but lasted a full three
seconds as it traveled forty degrees from eastern Aquila through western
Ophiuchus.

The first column gives the period watched stated in Universal Time (UT)
which is PST + 8 hours. The second column gives the percent of that
particular hour actually spent observing the sky. The third column gives the
average limiting magnitude estimated during each period. The last several
columns list the activity seen during each period. I was facing southeast at
an altitude of 60 degrees during the entire session. No breaks were taken.
ANT = Antihelions (Virginids), NPX = Northern Apex and SPO =
Sporadics (random activity).
