(meteorobs) Eta-Aquarids from Israel
Hey everyone,
IAA's meteors division observed the Eta-Aquarids from Wise Observatory, near
Mizpe Ramon, Israel. We observed for 5 nights 2-7/5/2003.
This was my first time to observe Eta-Aquarids and I come back with mixed
emotions about it. On the one hand, there were some really nice ones with
long paths leaving bright trails behind them. One the other hand though, I
had higher expectations for rates and magnitudes. I saw no Eta-Aquarid
brighter than -2 (neither sporadics or others, actually) and the total
number of ETA's was only 122...
It was good but could be better :-)
General statistics of our reports files. It includes reports of:
3 observers.
23.29 hours Teff.
122 Eta-Aquarids.
126 sporadics and others.
The reports file is attached.
Clear skies and best ETA's,
Shy

Unfortunately a systematic mistake made me lose some of the magnitude data of the sporadics.
It happened only this night, all other nights are fine.

General comments
------------------------------
In this report there are:
3 observers.
23.29 total Teff.
122 Eta-Aquarids.
126 Sporadics.
All during 5 nights of observations (0200AM local to sunrise every night) from Wise Observatory in Israel.
This was also part of a project conducted by TAU (Tel-Aviv University) to observe and study the Eta-Aquarids simultaneously by video, radar and visual observations (we intended to make binocular observing as well but there were not enough people).
Many Eta-Aquarids had long paths leaving short but lovely trails behind. None brighter than -2 were seen.
