Object: Abell 46 (PK 55+16 1; PN G055.4+16.0)
Category: Planetary Nebula
Constellation: LYR
Object data: Vmag=3D14.3; dim.78"x71"; type IIIb+II; central * Vmag=3D14.87v=
ar
(Bmag=3D14.3-16.0 in 0.4717day, Algol type variable); discovered by Abell in
1955; ELCAT: [OIII 4959+5007]=3D5x[Hbeta]
RA/DE: 18h31.2m, +26=B055' (2000); Uranometria 160

Description: at 211x and OIII, medium sized PN, extremely faint even with
filter (hard to draw, the dim red light is still too bright); seen with
filter from 74x and without filter from 125x and up; round and homogeneous;
estimated diameter about 78"; central star of mag15.5 with another of mag16
on the E edge; UHC has a little contrast gain, OII a good one and Hbeta is
of no help at all.

I can provide a scanned drawing of Abell 46 to anyone who can read the
binhex encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(ypothier@abi.snv.jussieu.fr), it works sometimes with other
configurations...
