Description:
ESO60IG26 has the name of "Madore's Monster" associated with it. The
galaxy appears to be three seperate interacting galaxies. As a whole
it has an apparent diameter of 3' by 1.5' and has a low surface
brightness. There were no stars superimposed over or near the galaxies.
Averted vision showed two distinct dark lanes seperating the galaxies
into three. This is an interesting group. The group was still visible
through the 14" scope with averted vision only, and the dark lanes
disapeared altogether. I found this galaxy group while looking through
the "A Catalogue of Southern Peculiar Galaxies and Associations vol 1
page 108. A finder chart is available in vol 2. It is listed in the
catalogue as an interacting triple in a group of six.
