Object data: Vmag=10.6; Bmag=11.6; 18"x18"; type II+IIa; central star of
Vmag=11.4; discovered by Aitken in 1900; ELCAT: [OIII, 496+501nm] = 15 x
[Hbeta, 486nm].
RA/DE: 12h33.11m, +82°33.8' (2000.0)
Date and UT of observation: 18 February 1993
Location & latitude: La Clapiere Obs. (France, latN44 40 00, longE06 27 36)
Site classification: rural, alt.1650m (5500ft)
Limiting magnitude (visual in UMi): 6.0 with averted vision
Transparency (1 to 5 - best to worst): 2
Seeing (1 to 5 - best to worst): 3
Moon up (phase?): no
Instrument: Meade SCT 8" (203mm), F/10
Magnification: 80-145x
Filters used: prism, OIII

Description: at 145x, small and bright PN, globular-like because the center
is gradually brighter until a stellar core; the OIII provides a good
contrast gain; still small at 290x with OIII: about 17" in diameter; a
amg14 star is visible against the W side; stellar PN at 45x; stellar
spectrum at 80x with prism, but a faint continuous streak is suspected; a
mag10.5 star is 1.5' SSW.

I can provide a scanned drawing of IC 3568 to anyone who can read the
binhex encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(ypothier@abi.snv.jussieu.fr), it works quite often with other
configurations...
