Constellation: Ori
Data: mag 2.5V size 14" X 14"
Position: RA 05:35.4 DEC -05:54
Description:
55X - The nebula is faint glow surrounding the 2 stars. The double star is 44 Orion (Blue white). The nebula is part of the M42 complex. The O-III filter
dims it out. (SkyMap Pro shows NGC1980 to be 2.5V, but I find it much dimmmer,
at least low surface brightness washed out by the pair of blue white stars. The
Night Sky Observers Guide indicates it to be part of a much larger wisp of the
southern edge of M42 .
