re: (meteorobs) plotting many at once (was Re: July 5/6 6/7)

Interesting Lew,
The last times I was out, since I'm feeling a bit better about
plotting, and my time is s l o w l y creeping down, I started to write
down the info on the plotting form. I started cause I was tired of not
remembering the !@$#$%^ numbers! I still keep the recorder since it
provides a backup to what I write(since I am trying to do it quick, I
forget some things on the first trip through. But I get the number!! dot it
also allows comments like "Wow that was a bright one oh s**t there's
anotherone, etc,and also allows me to suggest projects for future work like
"I'm gonna figure out exactly where that limiting mag area 13 is yet",
and"I need to learn those constellation over ther behing Cygnus's tail
next". Also, I use it to record what my horizon constellations are, etc.
Fills up my little notebook, but the main use is still to record the data.

That's usually pretty invigorating for me: I find that I can actually
remember
multiple events quite clearly IF I haven't seen much in the last half hour
or
so. What gets me is remembering those #$! sequence numbers! When I send my
current batch of plots in to y'all (soon I promise!!), you'll note many
gaps in
meteor sequence numbers: I'd just rather skip than reuse a number
accidentally.

Of course I realize that this problem is just an artefact of my using the
tape
recorder in concert with my plotting, but I've gotten so attached to the
little
doohickey that I find it hard to log meteors any other way! :> Also,
between
finding the right chart, finding the pen, and fiddling with the
straight-edge, I
have trouble enough keeping my dead-times down! :)

Clear skies,
Lew
