(meteorobs) Observation Apr. 23/24 in Xinglong
It was overcast here during the Lyrids maximum, so I decided to start my
first meteor observation of this year in the early morning of Apr. 24,
which was my brithday.
I took a nap after midnight, and got up and went out the dome at 02:25 local
time (which was Apr. 23 18:25 UT). A meteor appeared just after I went out
the door and watched the sky on my way to the roof. There were clouds in
low horizon to the east and the north, but was quite clear to south and
zenith. The Milky Way could be seen clearly, but of course no shadow could
be left... I spent 20 minutes to learn the constellations in this season,
radiant positions, and star count areas, and saw another 3 meteors (some
might be LYR) and 1 satellite before I started my session at 02:45.
The overall LM was 5.5, which was not bad for me in this site. It was
not cold and was much comfortable than my previous experiences in last
winter. However, the humidity was as high as 100%. The oriange cover of
George's Guidebook was full of dew drops when I left the roof at 04:00.
Quick summary is:
Apr. 23/24 1845-2000 UT Teff=1.15 LM=5.5 F=1.00 LYR(2) SAG(0) SPO(9)
No bright meteor was observed, although amateurs coming for Lyrids
photographs told me that they saw one -5 and at least two -3. They started
before midnight, but I think that most of their camaras were covered by
water. Two faint SPO came out simultaneously at 03:07, quite fast, in
parallel paths but quite seperated. At 03:36, two bright (+3) satellites
coming from south to north in same direction and quite near path, one
follow another in 30 seconds, and the second one run a little faster,
looking like it was going to catching the previous one. Detail report is
as following.
