Re: (meteorobs) "Leonids Lockdown" for 'meteorobs' [PLEASE READ]

Dear Meteobs,

I would like to add to Lew Gramers comments some email education (mindful
that recently I accidently sent to the group a memo intended only for Mark
Davis) for those who do not realize that the reply button is not for a
message that has only one recipient with any possible interest in what you
have to say. Far too often we are deleting personal messages.

If you are responding to a person's post on the server and your comment is
of interest only to them-perhaps it is a personal comment like "good luck
with your project"-don't sent it to the entire list and waste the members
time. Take the trouble to cut and paste the proper email address in the To:
HEADER. All of us are having to delete a lot of mail that is of no interest
at all.

In addition while I am on my high horse allow me to inform users that it is
possible to change the subject when you use the reply button. It is often
that mail circulates with a subject HEADER with no remote connection at all
to the subject in the body of the post because the sender lacks the
courtesy to take the trouble to change the subject to the specific topic
they are addressing in the email.

Now before the criticism starts let me say that I have been a strong
proponent of open email. All I am saying here is be a good email citizen
and take the trouble to make personal email truly personal and also don't
be lazy and rude-get your subject right. Everyone will benefit from these
common courtesies. At this buswy time of the year the above items are more
important than ever

Clear skies,

Terry
