Thank you indeed, Sid, for sharing your observing report with
us here on the list! I hope you did so because you were bravely
wanting constructive comments - since of course you got some. ;>
BTW, Sid, I noticed that you used a tape recorder to note your
data during the session. Before I get into formats, I wanted to
ask how that was for you: Have you also tried paper, and if so,
how did the two techniques compare? And also, how did you find
it having to transcribe the data from your tape afterward?
Also I noticed that your Limiting Magnitudes seemed so low, I
figured they must be severely affected by moonlight! Were you
actually facing the moon during these sessions? That is a real
LM- (and rate-)killer: try to avoid facing the moon if you can!
OK, on to the format question! :) Mark notes:

There are difficulties with reporting tabular data (like meteor
rates) via email. Mark, Wayne and Bob all outlined some ways to
cope with these difficulties. I have yet another suggestion. :)
Ultimately for me, the easiest way to do my reporting is to be
sure my mailer is using a FIXED WIDTH FONT... Examples of this
have generally included Courier, SYSTEM or TERMINAL fonts - or
best of all, using a "flat-text" email client that doesn't USE
fonts at all... Anyway, every mailer is different, but almost
all of them provide you with SOME way to enforce fixed width.
So how can you be sure your tables will line up? There is one
simple test: start composing an email. Now in the body of it,
enter the following two lines of text, 39 characters each...
M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M
l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l
If these two lines do not line up character-for-character, all
the way to the end, then you are not composing in fixed width.
