Hi,

Set your alarm every hour (or 1/2 hour) during the nights 17-18 and
18-19/11. Use a "back up alarm" in case off...Watch not before midnight.
Leave your PC in sleeping mode (when you are sleeping). Keep an eye on the
incoming mails and meteor websites. Especially on "Leonids life 2001". You
will see the first data ; and get informed if there really is a Leonid
Meteor storm .

I do the same thing when there is an aurora alert.

But if I were you ; I stayed up whole night, especially those 2 nights. It
depends from witch country you are observing. If it is cloudy ; organise as
quick as possible a crash raid to a place with better weather conditions. It
is not the Gemenid or Perseid meteor shower..dot it are THE LEONIDS ! Don't
miss a possible meteor storm ! Activity rises very, very quickly, and after
an hour or 2, the show is over yet...In 1999 I watched in Belgium ; before
01.30 AM ; there were almost no Leonids, and after that hour ; the activity
increased enormously and had his maximum around 03.05 AM. Neither, is was
very cloudy for me at the moment of the maximum ; the show was still
unforgettable ! After 04.00 AM ; the show was over...

For 2001 ; Leonid storm window ;

09-12 UT 18/11 ZHR 800 - 4000 USA
17-19 UT 18/11 ZHR 3700 - 8000 W Pacific and Asia

Look at the site of Peter Jenniskens for the possible ZHR rate in your
country (or city).

Good luck and clear skies filled with many, many Leonids !
