(meteorobs) Higher activity last night?

Hi, everyone,

I just returned from Xinglong Station (my observing place) this
afternoon. We did some meteor observations last night, and surprisingly
found that there were some more meteors than usual in the first half part
of the night. We used to try to look up an active shower, but found none.
Then, I tried doing a special observation, and some deep-sky object
observers also did informal meteor observations with me. Finally, we
found that some bright meteors could be traced together at the Leo's
back, and some other fainter ones could be regarded as from a point under
the major bear's tail (Ursa Major). Both of these were not near enough
from antihelion or two apexes. The speed and brightness of "Leonids" are
both very high, but the ones of "major Ursids" seemed to be a bit slow.
But, in the second half part of the night, the activity level returned to
normal. The number of meteors seen was obviously smaller.

Now, I'm much too sleepy to work on, and am going to sleep soon. So I
think my observation report cannot be done out very soon. But I'd like to
ask if some other observers on our list saw similar activity. Or is there
anyone going to observe tonight?

All best wishes and Clear skies!
