(meteorobs) 2002 Lyrids from N Florida
Greetings to all,
I managed to get in a very hazy hour of semi-serious observing this
morning from North Florida and saw Lyrid activity that would parallel Wes
Stone's results from out west. Stars only to 4.5 were visible, rendering
serious observations virtually impossible, but I still counted 8 Lyrids and
7 sporadics between 0915 and 1015 UT. One first and two second magnitude
Lyrids were the brightest, all others three and fours. Not too shabby
considering the sub-par skies. I figured easily twice that many might have
shown up in darker skies. Looks like another decent year for the Ls. Hard
for me to believe it has been twenty years since that memorable morning in
1982 when the I saw the Lyrids go into their last stunning outburst!! Ahh,
the menories! It was great to be out under the skies again. My first watch
since 17/18 November and yet another stunner called the 2001 Leonids.
Best wishes to all and good luck on the upcoming Eta Aquarids, Paul
