Re: (meteorobs) [EAMN] Daytime Green Fireball [05 Apr 2002, Coffs Harbour, Au...
Hello All,
I don't know if this is a match, but I was going to ask the List if anyone
recorded anything ususual via visual, photographic, or radio signals for this
same day. I received a report (below) from an associate who has a Seismic
Research Laboratory located in Hesperia, CA, USA [34:25:09N 117:18:09W]. He
has picked up bolide signatures in the past, and asked if I could check on
this for him. Does anyone have more info on if a bolide or reentry had been
logged for the time frame below? This would have been a daytime sighting
here in So. Cal. Any possibility this could be somehow connected with the
unusual sighting event in Australia?
Begin quote:
>> While on the subject of bolides, I picked up a very unusual signal Sunday
afternoon (5/5/02) at 22:54:35 UTC that smacks of meteor entry with at least
four electromagnetic shock waves (skips?) and then nothing at 22:56:28 UTC
until 22:57:04 UTC when it starts back up with an entry burn signature
beginning at 22:57:05 UTC which lasted for about 30 seconds. The breakup
looks almost the same as the signature that was captured for the Whitehorse
Yukon bolide except it appears much larger or closer. Since it was daylight
here, maybe it was dark enough to the east to have been observed or tracked
visually as it entered the atmosphere. <<
Any help will be much appreciated!
Thank you!

Not sure about the UFOs and delta-wings, but are there any confirming
reports of daytime fireballs from that region of Australia that day?
Clear skies,
Lew

Subject: Daytime Green Fireball
On the 5th of April at 3PM I observed a medium fast green fireball
with wake in the eastern sky. I happened to be looking at that part
of the sky as it became visible. It was at least as bright as the
full moon, probably brighter. Half of its flight was visible behind
high cloud. It was from behind this high cloud that it appeared
distinctly green.
My girlfriend and I were atop a 1300 metre high mountain 70km west of
Coffs Harbour at the time, waiting for the sun to set. The nova V838
MON was to be the binocular-observation target.
Between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM we both observed a series of seemingly
unrelated but equally unusual phenomena. One symmetrical and two
asymmetrical halos passing overhead from west to east (looked very
high up, the ionosphere?) encompassing 1/3rd of the entire sky. A UFO
doing "loop the loops" that subsequently vanished. And if that wasn't
enough .... a very large delta wing aircraft(Concord?) without proper
navigation lights flew almost straight overhead.
Needless to say by this time we had forgotten about V838 MON. We both
skulked into the car and went to sleep, not wanting to see anything
more.
Cheers, Mike.
BTW, this is a very good halo site:
