Malcolm,

           You gave me a good opening to make the reminder, if it needs to
be made, about having a backup recorder for the voice data.  My trusted Sony
TCM-453V survived three years of cold, heat and dew before succumbing  *at
mid-peak* of the storm last year!  I recommend the unit, the button layout
is efficient and it has a light letting you know it's on.  It gave much
better performance than the other recorders I've used.
           Shortwave worked exceptionally well for me last year for the one
minute-intervals -- the time signal is almost tailor-made for meteor
observing  -- with the volume up a bit the signal goes right onto the tape.
