I had a very
satisfying two hour observation this morning under probably the best LM (+6.44)
I've had all year. Although there were a couple of lengthy lulls, activity
was quite busy most of the time, with the Orionids well outperforming my
expectations, especially during the second hour when I logged 13
ORI's!! This was well more than double the number I would expect to have
seen. That same period also had 10 SPO's and three other minor shower
members for a total of 26 meteors the last hour. The first hour was not
shabby, with 18 meteors obsevered including 7 ORI.
No fireballs were
logged but the second (busy) hour saw a number of bright Orionids including a
-1. I saw another long-lasting nebulous-appearing meteor at 08:43
UT. I saw more Orionids this morning, four nights after the tuesday
morning peak, than I did during my two hours on tuesday...albiet I was out
two hours later than I was tuesday. Still, 13 ORI/hour is nothing to
sneeze at and made for a very enjoyable session!
To top off those
busy rates, I saw one casual meteor as I arrived at my site, and two others
(NAPX) as I was leaving, for the unofficial total of 47 meteors in roughly
two hours.
